Braille

Is a system with six raised dots which allows 63 different combinations. By means of these combinations writing can be encoded for blind people. Subsequent to the invention Louis Braille also invented a system of musical notation for the blind... Nowadays Braille machines are used in which the dots are written from left to right and which can be read immediately... Since raised writing takes up so much space, books printed in these letters are large and expensive. The result was the development of a shorthand... This enabled faster reading and saved up to 30% of the previous space.

8 dot system

This system was... developed for stenographers... it is based on Braille with two additional dots added. Computer keyboards for the sight impaired and Braille printers use the 8 dot combination.
